The legs can lose their contour due to excess skin or subcutaneous fat after weight loss or secondary to aging. The goal of a thighplasty (thigh lift) is to remove any excess skin or fat to provide a better contour to the upper thigh. Dr. Mohan performs thighplasties (thigh lifts) to improve the appearance of the upper thigh to provide a more youthful and contoured look.
Goals of Thighplasty
The goal of a thighplasty (thigh lift) is to remove excess skin and fat in the thigh. The outcome should improve the contour of the thigh and keep it proportionate with the rest of the extremity.
During the procedure, an incision is made in the upper, medial thigh to remove a wedge of excess tissue. The length of the incision depends on the amount of excess skin and fat present. Sometimes, the incisions can be limited to the upper thigh but in some cases, the incision runs the entire length of the thigh. Liposuction is also performed during the procedure to remove excess fat.
Patients with extra skin and fat in the thigh are typically good candidates for the procedures. Patients have been at a stable weight are optimal candidates because weight fluctuations after surgery could affect the aesthetic outcome.
At the first visit, Dr. Mohan will discuss your goals and devise a treatment plan to achieve the look you are wanting. A thorough history and physical will be performed to determine how much skin and fat excess is present.
It is normal to have swelling and bruising after surgery which is why we recommend the use of post-operative compression garments. Pain after the procedure is mild and controlled with oral medications. Thighplasty (thigh lifts) can be combined with other procedures such as breast procedures.
