Dr. Mohan will perform a thorough evaluation to determine your aesthetic goals. If you are a candidate for an implant, Dr. Mohan will discuss the types of chin implants that will work best for you.
Chin augmentation can improve the projection of a weak chin or decrease the projection of an over-projected chin. The whole goal is to improve the overall appearance and harmony of the face.
If the patient needs more projection, a silicone implant is placed in front of the chin. The implant can increase the projection and width of the chin. This procedure can be done in conjunction with a rhinoplasty and most facial procedures. To place the implant, an incision is made underneath the chin to develop a pocket for the implant. For situations where the chin is over-projected, a reduction can be performed by decreasing the size of the bone.
Dr. Mohan will perform a thorough exam and review your goals to determine what might work best for you. Dr. Mohan will also review the details of the procedure and go over pre- and post-operative instructions.
It is common to have numbness/tingling after the procedure but this usually goes away with time. Swelling and bruising is common after the procedure and subsides in one to two weeks. Most patients can go back to work one week after surgery and resume physical exercise after two weeks.
